What is SES?

SES is an acronym for Supplemental Educational Services. It is targeted for low income students within the public education system who are not meeting proficient levels on state testing. If a school district does not meet the target goal of achievement for two consecutive years, under No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB) they must offer free tutoring to students who attend those schools. The criteria for eligibility is set by the CDE and school districts. It is the solution to low achievement on standardized tests for low achieving students. All tutoring is free to the qualifying students, yet is paid for by the school district's Title 1 Federal Funding.

How does a tutoring company get approved?

Companies such as Jump Into Reading must adhere to a rigorous California Department of Education (CDE) application process to become an approved provider. CDE examines and scores the application based on the company's detailed narrative research-based curriculum, alignment of curriculum to content standards, record of effectiveness inlcuding data collection, previous clients, business requirements including liability insurance, background checks and fingerprinting on all employees, maintaining a valid business license, as well as providing evidence of fiscal soundness validated by a Certified Public Accountant. Once approved, it is placed on the CDE website. School Districts use the website to access contact information from companies such as ours, so they can bring information to parents about the available services.  Click on the CDE link below. http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/ti/supplemental.asp
